Common Problems

Problem: Grays Aren't Gray

Grays shifting from neutral are visually problematic, but beyond that they indicate a calibration problem. 

The Solution

  • Verify your ink channel limits
  • Re-Linearize
  • Print another control wedge
  • If necessary re-profile

Weak Blacks

The deepness of the black visually affects the entire image. This is especially important for backlits

Step 1 - Print a Control Wedge

  • The control wedge contains a wealth of information
  • While measuring with a spectrophotometer is the norm, you may still see problems visually
  • The control wedge is the best way to monitor results
  • Always memorialize a job with a printed control wedge.

Step 2 - Check Your System

The print environment must correspond to your media

  • Always verify the paper & substrate
  • Always verify the press settings
  • Always verify the printer & RIP settings
